Let's just get right to the point, this flesh is hard to kill! We are in a daily battle! Let me take a second to teach you for a minute. The Flesh defined in Strong's Greek Concordance:4561 (sarks) is generally negative, referring to making decisions (actions) according to self – i.e. done apart from faith (independent from God's inworking). Thus what is "of the flesh (carnal)" is by definition displeasing to the Lord – even things that seem "respectable!" In short, flesh generally relates to unaided human effort, i.e. decisions (actions) that originate from self or are empowered by self. This is carnal ("of the flesh") and proceeds out of the untouched (unchanged) part of us – i.e. what is not transformed by God.
It is safe to draw from this definition that "the flesh" doesn't contribute to your spiritual growth. Therefore as "believers" we are to choose to crucify "the flesh" daily. If not, we would never get anything done! "the flesh" will tell you to "take a break' "the flesh" will tell you that you have done enough, let somebody else do it" "the flesh" will tell you to go ahead and eat that piece of chocolate cake....again! "the flesh" will tell you to cuss out your husband/wife, "the flesh" will cause you to justify wrong behaviors, immoral living, wrong mindsets, and wrong attitudes. "The flesh" will also rise up and tell you that the visions, dreams, and aspirations will never happen and that you are to stupid and/or to dumb to even believe that they will. It is time to tell your flesh to DIE!!! Don't think that "the flesh" will die easy! After all; "the flesh" knows you all to well - it has been with you all of your life and knows your weaknesses. "The flesh" is carnal in nature. This is why The Bible says that a carnal mind is enmity against God (Romans 8:7). So you ask what is the solution? I am glad you asked! Remember the definition above said that "the flesh" was 'what was not transformed by God? Romans 12:1-2 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. As you continue doing this daily; this will help you walk "in the spirit" and not pursue "the works of the flesh" My favorite scripture is Galatians 2:20 (KJV)
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. However, this must start with a RENEWED MIND! You must choose to renew your mind daily with The Word of God and as you continue to replace your thoughts with God's thoughts; your flesh will slowly be crucified and one day you realize that the the 'things' you used to do, you don't do anymore, the attitude you used to have, you don't have any more, the chocolate cake you used to eat.....well....you may not eat it everyday!
