5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths
Trust is defined as: firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. 2. confidence placed in a person by making that person the nominal owner of property to be held or used for the benefit of one or more others.
As I ponder on the above words and the definition of "trust" it tells me that I am to have a firm belief in the reliability of my Lord. After all Lord by Greek definition means 2962 kýrios – properly, a person exercising absolute ownership rights). with all thine heart....stop for a minute! Heart? Is this the same heart according to Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it"? Is this the same heart that is spoken of in Mark 7:20-23 (KJV)
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
This is not the "heart" that we are to trust God with; because we cannot! Something must happen within our hearts. There must be a purifying and a burning up of all things that are contrary to the word of God. Unfortunately, but fortunately, this happens through trials and tribulations.
1 Peter 4:12-16 (MSG)
12 Friends, when life gets really difficult, don't jump to
the conclusion that God isn't on the job.
Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ
experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the
14 If you're abused
because of Christ, count yourself fortunate. It's the Spirit of God and his
glory in you that brought you to the notice of others.
15 If they're on you because you broke the law or
disturbed the peace, that's a different matter.
16 But if it's because you're a Christian, don't give it a
second thought. Be proud of the distinguished status reflected in that name!
As the above scripture says when trials & tribulations come; be glad! Most times, it is a spiritual refining process and there is nothing you can do to stop the hand of God when this happens. However, there may be times when poor choices are made and your trial maybe a circumstance of a poor decision that was made. Even in that, His mercies are created new every second of the day. Repent, go and sin no more.
